PELAGIC BIRD WATCHING

We work in conjunction with the highly recommended Africa Birding specialists; Cape Town Pelagics. Click here for their schedule of trips, and for bookings.

For birding enthusiasts, this is a unique opportunity to view the migratory seabirds off Cape Point. These seabirds can only be viewed by boat, 15 to 30 miles off the cape coast. This is a rare opportunity to add approximately 12 new species of birds to your Birdwatching list! These birds include 4 species of Albatross, Petrels, Prions, Shearwaters and Skuas.

Tours depart from Simon's Town at 07h00am. After a safety briefing, we take a scenic ride along the False Bay coastline up to the spectacular Cape of Good Hope, (the most South Westerly tip of Africa). After a short photo session, we leave the coast in a South Westerly direction in search of any fishing trawlers fishing in the deeper waters off Cape Point. These trawlers remain at sea for up to 7 days at a time and are normally processing their catch. The leftovers are then discarded into the sea and this attracts thousands of seabirds! It is not uncommon to have over 5000 seabirds following one single trawler during their feeding frenzy!
